Our story

Element Houtbouwers is a new company, led by Daan Kosterman and Jack Hedger. But the company's roots run much deeper: it's the new name and new face of Kosterman Bouw, a contracting business that has been active in the province of Utrecht for more than 25 years.

We decided to change the name because master builder Karel Kosterman has reduced his working hours to spend more time with his grandchildren. Karel still works alongside us — his decades of experience are invaluable to Element Houtbouwers.

Shared passion for building

Jack and Daan met while travelling; both were on long campervan trips with their partners. Sitting next to each other on the ferry from Spain to Morocco, they quickly discovered how many passions they shared. After travelling together through northern Morocco, they stayed in touch.

After Jack moved to Utrecht in 2024, Jack and Daan began working together; first and foremost, they enjoyed each other's company as friends, and starting a company felt like the next logical step!

They spent a long time thinking about how to build a company centred on sustainable building and high-quality craftsmanship — but also one where they build healthy relationships with clients and their network. That vision is increasingly taking shape under the name Element Houtbouwers!
